The Camp Fire USA Purpose

   The purpose of Camp Fire USA is to provide, through a program of informal education, opportunities for youth to realize their potential and to function effectively as caring individuals responsible to themselves and to others; and, as an organization, to seek to improve those conditions in society which affect youth.

   To achive this purpose, Camp Fire USA, working with individuals and communities, and society as a whole, shall encourge the following: the developemnt and presentation of spiritual and ethical values; the realization of the dignity and worth of each individuals; the practice of responsible citizenship exemplifying the highest standards of a free and democratic society; the wise use if human and natural resources; and renewal and adventure; develop sensitivity skills in human relationships, initiative, self-reliance, a positive self-image and responsible attitudes; encourage an understanding and appreciation of the environment, the development of skills in outdoor living, and the search for the maintenance of optimum health.

   Each Camp Fire USA council and every program leader or staff member is engaged in a common effort to interpret the Camp Fire USA purpose through the program. This purpose is deceptively simple in print. It is profoundly significant in reality. It is deep and wide in scope. It is open and diversified in opportunity.

   Insofar as we implement this purpose, we are doing what we are in business to do. Insofar as we fail to implement this purpose, we fail to uphold our youth, our community, and to our organization.
